Not wanting to adopt, but want to help those that cannot help themselves?

Adoption fees only partially cover the expense of caring for all of the dogs that are taken in. Some dogs require extensive time in foster care or lengthy medical treatment, running into the hundreds of dollars. Every penny of your donation goes directly to hands-on care of these dogs.

"WHY spay and neuter?"

"In 'Angels' arms"

My furballs website is dedicated to my furry friends.
They are the inspiration for all that I do with rescue.

Dorro came to us from an Animal Shelter in Germany the summer of 1987. He was one year old and badly abused .He was the best companion that anybody could ask for, loyal, loving and very affectionate. He passed away in the Spring of 1997.

On January 24-2003 my little Hexe passed away from cancer. She adopted us on Valentines day 1993 at the Junction City Animal Shelter.

*************************************************************************

Akuma Kuma ( my Kuma Bear) was born July 24- 1997. He was only 6 years young when he crossed the bridge on February 6th- 2004 due to seizures.

A piece of my heart will always be with them and will remind me never to stop Rescue.I think of them often and I wish they where here but I know they are waiting for me at the bridge ( along with some other friends we made along the way) and we will be together again some day

RIP.

A Loved One is not gone, until they are forgotten! And to Live in the Hearts of those left behind is to Live Forever!

In memory of my Kuma Bear and Bear ( a very much loved rescue Mastiff) I am posting this link; SEIZURES, please read!!! This info could save YOUR dog ( for our beloved friends it came to late)

"LEGEND"

There is an Indian legend which says, when a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into heaven. At the head of that bridge waits every animal that human encountere during their lifetime. The animals, based upon what they know of this person, decide which humans may cross the bridge..... and which are turned away.

"WHY THE NAME"

The pets on my site are by no means disposable. Some people however, believe they can throw them away like a used tissue. My home is a temporary home for some of these unfortunate souls. That's how I decided on the name; Home For Disposable Pets. I'm not implying that all people think this way, but some do. Some people just can't keep their pets any longer for what ever reason. They do the right thing by bringing them to the shelter, instead of dumping them somewhere to more then likely die of starvation or injury. I just wanted to clarify the reason for the name, since I have been receiving nasty e-mails about it. I am very picky about where my pets go, and I do have contracts to make sure that these pets are not considered disposable.

"WHO WE ARE"

We are a licensed Rescue Shelter in the state of Kansas. Most shelters are overflowing with too many animals. This means many animals will unfortunately be euthanized. Even though we try very hard to save these animals, many wonderful pets will be left to die, this is the bitter truth. We are a group of animal lovers that volunteer our time and talents to help homeless pets find new homes. We also list animals that are still with their owner but for one reason or another can no longer keep them. All of OUR dogs & cats are home fostered, not in a shelter. You won’t have to wonder if they are good with kids, other dogs or cats, you will know if they are based on our foster home evaluations. We work on housebreaking and basic manners as well. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm checked (treated if positive), up to date on vaccinations and on monthly preventatives. Dogs that require additional medical care, including dentals, lab work or additional surgical procedures are also done as necessary

"Why adopt a rescue dog?"

Dogs who have been uprooted from their happy homes or have not had the best start in life are more likely to bond very completely and deeply with their new people. Those who have lost their families through death, divorce or lifestyle change go through a terrible mourning process. But, once attached to a new loving family, they seem to want to please as much as possible to make sure they are never homeless again. Those dogs that are just learning about the good life and good people seem to bond even deeper. They know what life on the streets, life on the end of a chain, or worse, is all about, and they revel and blossom in a nurturing, loving environment. Most rescues make exceptionally affectionate and attentive pets and extremely loyal companions.

Dispelling the Myths About Shelter Pets

"ADOPTION"

Everything we do with rescue is financed out of our own pockets ( and husbands pocket LOL) and the greatly appreciated small caring donations of others, who care about the discard of these dogs & cats.
Adoption fees vary, depending on the age and condition of the dog. Our younger purebreds help defray costs for older or mixed breed dogs.
Between $150 and $250 are the norm, a little more for younger dogs and a little less for the older ones. In REALITY the cost for us is just the opposite.
We have contracts that protect our furballs from neglect and abuse.
We place our fosters with whom we feel will provide the best home. Every dog has different needs, and these are taken into consideration when we approve an applicant. We reserve the right to refuse adoptions.
We do not ship our furballs. New owners may fly in and take their new pet back with them as "airline carry on". Home for Disposable Pets ONLY places family companions. None of our Rescues are available as outdoor-only or guard dogs.
We do not have a permanent shelter facility. Our whole organization is made up of volunteer foster homes. We have dogs in foster homes all over the state. So...it is NOT possible to go to a "shelter" to view all our dogs. (Please do not call me asking where to go to look at the dogs!) We ask that you submit an Adoption Application first.

"Fostering"

One of the most loving things you can do is provide a temporary home for a dog until a permanent placement can be found.

Our Complete Pet List

Choosing a rescue dog over a purchased pup will not solve the pet overpopulation problem (only responsible pet owners and breeders can do that), but it does give many of them a chance they otherwise would not have. But, beyond doing a "good deed", adopting a rescue dog can be the best decision and addition to the family you ever made. Rescue a dog and get a devoted friend for life!
